Review of the 2010 686 Men’s Times Krew Klutch Insulated Jacket

Fits and styles are excessive and plentiful. With hundreds of different jacket options multiplied by three or four different color ways, there is a plentiful amount of options for your jacket selection. So what is going to make you buy one jacket over another? Why choose one brand over another brand? Well first and foremost, people want to be confident in what they are wearing. You want to feel good? Look Good? All of these things make you ride better and enjoy your stay at the mountain. However, there is some tech that most consumers expect. Staying dry and warm are a must while looking into a snow sports jacket. Although there are many jackets that have one or two of the above qualifications there are not many items on the market that fulfill all the stipulations a consumer really wants. Let me introduce a jacket that has renovated the industry.

The 686 Krew Klutch Jacket is out of this world. In fact it transcends two worlds- the world of snow sports quality and the world of hip fashion. 686 and Krew have linked up together to collaborate on a series of outerwear. This jacket falls into that category. It takes all the current fashion trends of street wear brand Krew and integrates them into a fully functional snowboarding jacket. It has some above standard specs like 15,000mm waterproofing and 80g’s of full body polyfill insulation. This little piece of tech means two things explicitly- dry and warm, period. Also in this spectrum of technology, this jacket offers critically taped seems (no water or snow leakage). But what is really magnificent is the fit. It has a loose fit but is tapered to fit the body. If there is one thing that Krew has in the street wear industry it is fits. Their first collaborating outerwear piece does not fall short. It has other amenities as well. Hidden pockets, pass pockets, quilted body panels and heavy duty zippers. Again though there are many different tech options and fit options in the jacket category that will keep you loving life on the hill and loving your look off the hill. What does this jacket truly offer that other brand jackets do not? Read the rest of this entry »

PortersTahoe.com Reviews 2011 Smokin Snowboards

You can’t fool the youth!!!

Talk about change! Snowboarding is ready for a shakedown son, and in year 11 we’re bringin’ it. Snowboarding is more than a way to pass time in the winter, it’s what we dream of the rest of the year, it has founded lifetime bonds amongst strangers and turned them into our brothers and sisters, it is literally what has ended love amongst those that don’t understand our passion and found us in the company of others that share it. Throughout our collective history at Smokin’ we have desired one simple thing, to shoot it straight from the hip, no “filler”, we rely on our products to do the talking for us.

Snowboards are vessels for our creativity and love for the wintry mountains, that said we choose to make them our self not in some country half a million miles away. Not only do we insist on making our own boards, but we choose to make them in what we think is every shred doggies dream location, Lake Tahoe. From the base of the finest and most diverse mountain terrain on the planet we design and build the best shred sticks in the universe (as far as we know). No investors or corporate thugs, no marketing agency, no massive pro contracts, we give you exactly what we desire most, the best shred from the most dedicated shredders.

We raise our bottles to our heroes, our friends and partners, the people that support us as team riders and staff. This is family. From barbeques and backyard sessions, epic pow days, terrain park shredathons, midnight urban assaults, and competition underdogging we rule our domain. Too many companies are selling nothing but BS, relying on image, pros, and ads to catch your attention and thus your hard earned dollars. Increasing over seas manufacturing costs as well as lean budgets being handed down from the corporate wigs upstairs are leaving most companies struggling for market share. Cutting production corners and getting boards made anywhere they can most don’t realize the faults of their actions because nobody holds them accountable. Take a long look at your favorite brand, who owns them? Where are their boards made? Who’s driving this bus? What is their plan for snowboarding? Usually the answers are disturbing. Think about it, were not trying to exploit our favorite thing in the world for profit, were certainly not getting rich off this, and our plan for snowboarding is to simply keep it on the mountains and not in some man made box in the future.

New renewable materials in our boards, recycled sidewalls, and naturally fallen trees are just some of the very non toxic ingredients found in our line for 08/09. We have a responsibility to our shred community to bring to the table a no shit brand that is changing snowboarding from the way it is to the way it should be.

PortersTahoe.com Reviews 2011 Lib Tech & 2011 GNU

Lib Tech’s all terrain freestyle snowboard specific geometries met with overwhelming success in ‘09 board tests…Banana Tech- “rocker between your feet” — and Magne-Traction -strategically located serrated edges- are revolutionary departures from traditional ski based, one pressure point, camber snowboard designs…Both designs are premised on the fact that snowboarders ride with two feet on one board in a wide, stable freestyle stance…Magne-Traction improves edgehold, and Banana completely reworks the snowboard pressure map…full edge contact is maintained but edge pressure is now focused between and at your feet, the board is pre-bent into a natural turning arc and the tips and tails are less weighted for lift, deflection and catch free jib insanity…Banana-Mag snowboards are easier to ride everywhere for everyone… The Future is Bananas! * Banana Tech lets you stomp your rocker flat, giving you full tip to tail edge contact, board control and pop. * Naturally pre-bent rockered mid-section gives you carving and ice biting edgehold. * Firm tip and tails add pop, stability and float easily in powder.

PortersTahoe.com Reviews 2011 Ride Snowboards

RIDE SHAPING

All shape elements crafted together for the complete package.

Ride’s exclusive board shapes are an exercise in art and engineering. We refine the sidecut, profile, flex and shape to create boards that shred in line with your personal style. Camber-centric shaping is a thing of the past. With Ride’s new rocker profiles we took a new, customized path that integrates all key elements – one dependent on the other – to deliver a peerless Ride.

This season we advanced our shaping concept to a whole new level with the introduction of LowPro and ProRize. The sidecut, flex and rocker profiles are uniquely shaped at each end to create a better feel and performance on snow. LowPro pushes shaping to the limits with a loose, fun, effortless feel you get from versatile LowRize in the tip, merged with the pop, control, and grip from our new ProRize in the tail.

Ride’s Total Shaping Approach has unveiled a whole new world of ways for crafting more customized, shapely women’s products. Our new LSD line is the first series of rocker boards shaped just for ladies.

  • LowRize™ – With a nearly flat profile between the feet, the rocker begins at the extended blend zone to lift the contact points out of the snow just enough to give you the ultimate hook-free, smooth Ride without sacrificing pop when hitting the park.
  • HighRize™ – Shaped exclusively to rise above the deep stuff, HighRize™ let’s you float in pow with minimal effort. Slightly higher rocker in the front floats and plows through it all and its Twinish shape adds versatility for Riding switch or slashing groomers. Exclusively on the Slackcountry.
  • ProRize – Demanded by our Pros and designed for competition, this new shape has a long, stable flat zone for landing stability and pop. Built for going big and locking in landings without the fear of rocker washout.
  • LowPro – LowRize in the front, ProRize in the back. Loose, fun and effortless in the tip with grip, pop and stability in the tail. Sit back and cruise or charge it all. Truly superior for everything the mountain has to offer.
