Review of 2010 Volcom Girls Publish Insulated Jacket and 2010 Burton Womens Lucky Pant

For years I have wondered why women’s shred gear was so much shorter than men. I wrote it off to the that fact that the average shred chica isn’t all that tall, but recent conversations with girls in the average to shorter height range have revealed that they too are confused by women’s sizing. Who decided that lower back gaper gap was a good look on girls? Do you really need to see whether or not we have tramp stamps outerwear companies? I know it is no longer considered risqué to show our wrists and ankles, but that doesn’t mean we should have to. Luckily a few companies like Burton, Oakley and Volcom have come to their senses and offered us outerwear pieces in longer, more practical styles. Last year Burton introduced their Team Relaxed Fit and Volcom introduced their Team Fits (Volcom’s is exclusively for girls – suck it boys!). The Team Fits feature a longer inseam, hem and sleeve as well as a looser cut overall for comfort and ease of movement. This allows you to have all the benefits of borrowing your boyfriend’s shred gear without the gaping waist, huge shoulders and ultra low crotch.

2010 Volcom Girls Publish Insulated JacketThe Volcom Publish Jacket is and example of just such a piece of outerwear. It comes with all the standard jacket features as well as a little extra love in the sleeves and hemline. This isn’t just a pretty jacket (although it IS a pretty jacket) – it is beefed up with 10k weatherproofing and 80 grams of insulation, which means you’ll stay dry, warm and unexposed to the elements. Add in the jacket to pant interface and you have a nearly impenetrable kit that is sure to keep you safe from unwanted snow and wind not matter how tall or short you may be. At 5’9” the jacket fits well with the sleeves coming down to my knuckles and the hem just covering my bum. Other Team Fit jackets include Volcom’s Pilot and Burton’s Lana Pullover, Command System Jacket, Tango jacket, and Document jacket (both the heated and non heated version).

When I am not in outerwear my inseam is 34 inches and 36 inches if I am wearing heels. While I love the cut of Team2010 Burton Womens Lucky Pant Fit jackets, I like my pants a little on the slimmer side so when looking for shred pants I headed straight to the Lucky Tall pant. This particular pant is designed for all body shapes and comes in tall, regular, and short versions. The Lucky Tall pant features the ever so flattering Burton signature fit with just a couple extra inches added to the inseam. So if you want a longer pant without the bagginess of Team Fit, this is an excellent option. With 10k of weatherproofing, vents for dumping excess heat and zip in interfacing, the Lucky Tall pant is an all temps pant for the vertically blessed. Other longer fitting pants include Burton’s Pendant pant and Volcom’s Survey pant, Sustain pant, Transfer pant, and Forcast Tall pant.
