Resort Overview: Boreal Mountain, CA

Boreal Mountain Resort is located directly off I-80, the closest and most accessible resort in Northern California. Whether you are just learning to ski/snowboard or you are shredding the terrain parks, Boreal has something to offer. The affordable season passes and lift tickets, combined with world-class terrain parks and the option for night skiing make Boreal a local’s favorite resort to ride day or night.

Boreal is always the first resort to open in Northern California, generally about a month before other local resorts. An impressive snowmaking system allows Boreal to collect other notable firsts including opening to the top and first to open a superpipe.

Looking from Interstate 80, Boreal’s size is deceiving. If you venture off the main lift (Accelerator) you will find some great skiing and riding terrain. Powder stashes can be found in the trees of Cedar Ridge, long groomers off 49er and fun terrain parks off The Lost Dutchman chairlift. Go explore Boreal, there are fun areas all over the mountain. If you prefer riding under the lights, Boreal offers two lifts for night skiing, Accelerator and Castle Peak Quad. Castle Peak services beginner terrain at night along with the Mini-Shred park, while Accelerator accesses the top of the mountain, the Core terrain park and plenty of intermediate to advanced terrain.

Were you born sarcastic or is it a skill you've honed with years of training on the internet?

    It isn't always about vert…

If you've got a fast chair, who cares how much vert you've got?

Boreal is probably my least favorite hill in Tahoe.
That said, I'd rather ride nights there than Squaw.

good point. I think it was the Hot Wheels lift at alpine? Good Lord was that thing slow. If that's not the one I apologize. Also, I drove over an electric plug(city clean up went on while I was gone) so changing a flat in the dark was awesome.

Well, it use to be called Boreal Ridge….should've kept that name as it was more appropriate.

Boreal is among the smallest of Tahoe resorts. People love the place….I honestly don't get it.

Boreal literally is an all mountain terrain park. Features everywhere. If your not a park rider, there are better options. But boreal is affordable and fun

I definitely have fun there every time I've but I definitely wouldn't come all the way to Tahoe just to ride there.

But I'm old and suck at park so that might have something to do with it……although I did hit an honest to goodness rail for the first time in like 7 or 8 years while at Northstar this season.

You gotta go there on Fridays. College students only pay 15 bucks. Plenty of ladies looking for advice on how to keep their gloves warm.

    more lodge pimping angle.

Definitely! Planning at least a couple Northstar trips and a couple Downieville trips this summer. I will definitely let you know when I'm in town.

One of the ranger's told me last year that the mountain pre purchases power "blocks" from the utility companies at a discounted rate. Once they've used that up (powering lifts, snowmaking equip, etc..) they're done. Paying for power outside of the blocks is apparently way too expensive and they're not willing to pay for it…

Some places it's this, some places it's insurance purchased for a set number of days.
